THANK YOU DEAR

After several days of brooding and whining, this evening, I've got a great mobile tool from my husband...it's small and light to carry...only about 1 kg in weight...blue in color (I love blue) and easy to use. He said "with this, you dont have to get mad anytime you wait for me...it can kill your time and save your energy for getting mad at me"... You can use it at the train when you get bored or carry it easily in remote places. Its baterry can live for almost four hours before another recharging." he added enthusiatically.

For me, it's a very useful tool for me to write anything that cross in my mind...he just knew what I wanted for my pleasure...to cheer me up from the pain and sadness Now, I dont need any card reader to upload my photos from the camera. The most amazing is this gadget enable its user to chat with webcam (though i will not likely use this, lol).

Thank you my dearest for this amazing gift...it was a thoughtful of you...and again, thank you Lord for sending such a good man in my life

TEMAN SETIA

selaksa kata penuh makna
terangkai dalam sebait puisi
terikat alunan rima penuh arti
mengalun syadu sepenuh hati
mewakili ribuan rasa

Selaksa kata dalam sebait puisi
pejangga hati setiap pujangga
pengusir lara di setiap nestapa
teman setia dalam duka dan suka
seperti sebait doa seorang hamba
seperti setangkai bunga bagi sang kekasih hati

HUJAN

Hujan lagi pagi ini

Serasa cuaca bisa membaca suasana hati

Hingga menterjemahkan air mata lara

lewat derasnya air yang mendera

Penanda luka kembali menganga

Malam pun tiada cahaya

Bintang sembuyi takut penuh nestapa

Bulan membiarkan gelap merajelala

Langit bermuram durja berselimut duka

Menemani hati yang sedang gerhana

Merana sepi di tengah gulita

Hujan masih terus mendera

Bagaikan alunan lagu lama yang meraung murka

Memaksa ingatan kembali memutar masa lalu

Saat kenangan indah tersaji bagai film lama

Tiada cacat tiada cela

Dan sekejab halilintar berkelebat

Saat amarah menghancurkan benteng persahabatan

Membawanya pergi ke negeri tak tuan

Menyisakan kumpulan awan hitam pekat

Serta kilatan petir yang saling menyambung

Hingga air mata menghujan deras

SEPI YANG MEMBUNUH

Kesepian adalah racun berbisa
membunuh pelan tapi pasti
sekarat dalam kubangan duka
yang mengangga lebar tak berbatas
bagai lubang hitam
menghisap dan membinasakan
setiap jiwa yang mendekat pelan

Kesepian adalah puisi tanpa nada
mati rasa tak berjiwa
mengambang dalam kata tiada makna
mengabur pelan tanpa arti
hingga jenuh membunuh mati
saat sepi tak menemukan batas lagi

REALITY BITES SOMETIMES

Pagi ini merasa tersakiti banget... benar-benar shock dan speechless. Seharusnya sudah kebal dan already get used to it tapi entah mengapa hati ini merasa benar-benar super sakit meskipun hal seperti ini pernah terjadi berulang kali. Lagi-lagi terkena imbas dan terkena sambaran amukan kekesalan atas hal-hal yang jauh berada dalam jangkauan kuasaku... terlintas seandainya dan seandainya dan seandainya.

Lagi-lagi menanggis...karena aku bukanlah tipe orang yang bisa langsung menterjemahkan rasa kesal dan kemarahan lewat sejuta makian dan umpatan... lagi-lagi, this is me...bukan karena aku menganggap diri orang baik like a saint...tapi lebih karena I am weak...was not built strong and tough... crying is my best weapon to leash my anger and worries...

Lagi-lagi, aku tak bisa mengikuti falsafah semacam ini karena bagi aku sahabat sejati adalah sehabat dalam suka dan duka...bukan sahabat dalam suka saja...that's what make it super hard to find one real true friend... like finding a needle in a haystack...lagi-lagi bukan karena aku sok suci, tapi lebih karena i was not built like that...

A Surprising News

Why me? That's a question that keeps spinning on my head...and last night, it made me having an eerie dream...almost scarry. A surprise news that made me think the consequences...the burden to bear.

Was I happy for this? Ehm, let's see, I am either happy nor sad...worry is the exact word for this.

IO : Strike of the Great Lion

Io was woken up by the creaking sounds of the window. Its bolt was broken. The garrulous wind ambushed the room. The lantern died and the table screeched. Again, Io heard the enigmatic murmurs all around her as if they tried to lift her up in the air. Io grabbed her archery and swiftly run to the door. She saw Illario snoozed in the floor bed.

“Illario, wake up! Something is wrong! “Io shook his body but he seemed buried in deep slumber. Io darted outside to find Aiden and Hydra.

“Master Aiden? Hydra? Where are you?” Io screamed loudly. It was their first round guard but they seemed vanished without a trace. The snow was so cold. It had turned all around into huge white wide carpet. The iron lanterns outside did not provide much light for her to see. The wind blew ruthlessly and made the trees squeaking. The enigmatic murmurs wrapped her around and made her walk towards the forests. She tried hard to escape from the spell but she felt herself powerless. The force was too strong. It dragged her way down to thorny vine and scrub that instantly marred her hands that tried to shield her face and body. With some stings from nettles and pricks from thorns, she struggled out of the thicket. From a far, she heard Argo neighed noisily as if trying to wake up the others. He was kicking and thumping to get loose from the stable. Io wanted to cry his name aloud but her mouth was sealed.

After a few yards away, the murmurs faded away and she regained her self control. All around her the trees and shrubs swung fiercely. Io held her breath and tried to discern all. A deep growl broke her stillness. Coming from the dense trees and shrubs ahead was a dark shadow with glowing eyes. It walked unhurriedly towards her. After about twenty meters away, Io saw a huge lion with his huge black shadow underneath him. White foam rolled from his mouth, his eyes glistened red like fire, and he roared so fiercely that the woods and hills echoed with fearful sounds. He gazed at her with lustful hunger. Io’s body trembled almost violently as she stared before him. Her hazel green eyes were wide and filled with glistening tears. A sense of helplessness passed through her and turned to dread. The beast proceeded further, ripping out shrubs out with horrendous strength to get to his prey. Io waited for her death. Suddenly, a flash of King Orestes’ shadow passed before her as if giving her courage to defend her life. “Be not frightened because you are the daughter of Navarro”, she heard him spoke the words clearly.

Regaining her strength and courage, Io drew the shaft to her ear. She aimed her arrow through the lion’s heart. The beast proceeded further. Io strengthened her grip at the bowstring, waiting for the beast to make the leap. Then, the beast struck her with mighty force. Io rolled with her back pressed on the ground and shot him at the heart. A great stream of blood gushed out from his wound. A long shrieking moan was echoed and he fell into Io’s body.

“Io? Illario screamed and run towards her. Then, Illario rushed up and pierced the lion’s back with his dagger. The next moment Jato came to help him. They removed the death lion from Io’s body. Her body lay unconscious in a pool of blood. Her stunning red hair was drained in red and covered her face. Her clothes were torn. The horror had drained her energy. Jato examined her and found nothing serious except the minor scars over her uncovered skin from the prickly thorns. He lifted her back to the house.

“Hydra, clean up her wounds! She was lucky she’s still alive while you two were tricked with Demonthin’s sorcery. I should have known I could not trust her safety to you!” stormed Jato with anger. “Now, Skydra is no longer a safe haven. His dark army of the black riders will soon siege this place.” Jato restlessly walked to and fro.

“Demonthin’s power is getting stronger and stronger. My power is no adversary for him now. I see there will be darkness and blood in Navarro. We must send her to Cayledon fast before it’s too late. Our only hope is to find the silver dragon stone to imprison Demonthin in the Hellion dungeon.” Said Aiden.

IO : BACK AT SKYDRA

Back at Skydra

At dusk, they arrived at a valley shaded with wild rhododendrons, close to the stream with water splashed in which doves and linnets flew among the immense pines. Not too far from the stream, lay a cave, half-hidden by the crag above and the stiff heavy leaves that clustered below. The sky turned dark as a sign that nightfall had come. Jato instructed Io to enter the cave with Argos while he left in the dark. Io shivered under the cold weather. The next moment, Jato came in with some dried branches and started to make a fire. He brought along some fish. He cooked the fish in the fire. The smell aroused the appetite.

“You must be starving walking all day long with nothing to eat. Here, taste some. It’s not as delicious as your royal meal, though.” Said Jato cynically.

Io drew closer to the fire and started to eat the fried fish. The fire and the food had made her warm. She ate greedily and thought that Jato’s cooking was not bad at all. It tasted better than her usual food at the palace. She felt that Jato eyed her while eating.

“Stop staring at me!” Io shouted. “I’m not a freak. Where are you taking me anyway? Why don’t you just let me go back?”

“A simple thank you would be just fine, my dear!” grinned Jato. “You’re just like your mother! Sorry to tell you that it’s not in power to answer your questions. Tomorrow, I promise you, everything will be answered.” Said Jato calmly. “Now, just take some rest. We still have a long way to.”

Io did not try to argue with Jato as she knew her trials would be futile. She had to remain patient for the moment. Her mind was now occupied with the thought of her parents. They must have looked and worried for her. She wished she could tell them that she was just fine with Jato. At last, fatigue took control of her. She slumbered heavily near the fire.

The next morning, Io woke up only to find that she was alone in the cave. Jato had left with Argos. Io looked around and saw nothing. She immediately got out of the cave and washed her face in the stream. It was frozen. She jittered as the frozen water touch her skin. The woods were full of sound: the stream between the rocks, the wind among the needles of the pine branches, the chitter of insects and the cries of the birdsong; and a stronger gust of wind that made one of the branches of a cedar or a fir move against another and groan like a cello. Io sat at a big rock near for awhile, trying to figure out what has happened. Her thought was interrupted by a thundering voice behind her.

“You slept like a log, dear. I did not want to disturb you. Come, we must leave now.” Jato suddenly appeared riding Argos. “Argos and I were old friends. Don’t be surprised he was as tame as a goat with me, dear.” Said Jato as if he knew what Io was thinking about.

They walked along the narrow path beside the stream. Jato gave her some fruits to eat for breakfast. The weather got colder, and along the way leaves turned color and fell off the trees. They did not chatter much. Each seemed drowned in their own thoughts. The paths lead the way up encircling the mountain ridge and left the stream. At both sides, a thick forest trees stood tall and high. Io rode on Argos’ back while Jato kept walking speedily at her side. She amazed on how good he had his stamina. He did not look tired at all. A few hours later, the path got wider and the forest trees got smaller mixed with shrubs and wild flowers. They kept moving until they arrived at what looked like an entrance of a small village.

“I know this place. We’re in Skydra, aren’t we?” Exclaimed Io. She rushed Argos forward and found the house she looked for.

“Illario, where are you? Open the door, it’s me, Iola?” Io knocked at the door excitedly. It’s been awhile her father did not take her to Skydra. Illario was her playmate in this small village. She did not realize that these last two days, she walked down heading into the village. Jato must take the shortcut she did not know. She waited but the door did not open. She began to panic as she saw the village looked empty and deserted. The weather here was so cold and misty, due to the village being high up in the Mountain Range of Great Monteverde.

“Where’s everybody?” She screamed. Panic seized her.

“Iola…is it you?” said a voice from far end of the village.

A young man the same age with Io run swiftly from the misty pine trees above the village. He had tanned skin and dark brown hair with dark gray eyes. His figure was tall and muscular as if he had done continuous labors. He carried a sword in his belt. He looked excited to see Io and he instantly gave her a warm hug. They both like brother and sister.

“Atreus told me you’d come. We’ve been expecting you.” Said Illario. “Uncle Jato, it’s good to see you again. Atreus has been waiting for you in the council hall. Come, let’s not waste the time.”

llario led Io and Jato up to the dense pine trees. After a moment, the arrived at a wooden cottage. Inside, waiting three elderly men and one woman. Io recognized Atreus as Illarios’s father, but she did not know the other three. They sat quietly as if something was troubling their mind. When the three entered, each gave a slight bow.

“Atreus, Aiden, Leon, Hydra…, nice seeing you.” Jato bowed back at them and took seat next to Atreus. “I believe Princess Iola has many questions on her curious head. And Atreus, I need your healing herb. This little princess had given me a little trouble.” Jato signaled his gaze at his left arm.

“I demand explanation. Jato had dragged me way up here. He did not want let me go back. He said all answers to my questions will be provided here. And it’s not my fault you got that wound.” Said Io firmly.

“Princess, I’m afraid you can’t return to Navarro Palace at the moment. There’s been treason against your father. Minister Eresbos had led Lords and Noblemen who disliked King Orestes to seize the throne.” Said Atreus. “Jato was sent to help Lucius evacuating the royal family to a safety. But this plan somehow was revealed to our enemies. Eresbos had made a pact with the dark sorcerer, Demonthin, for a help.”

“That’s why we had changed our plan. Instead of helping Lucius, Jato was forced to bring you out of danger.” The elder women called Hydra continued. “Eresbos and his allies will not stop until they have you all killed, my dear. Right now, we wait for Lucius to return.”

Suddenly, Io remembered the enigmatic murmur she heard that night. It was like a half dream, it’s like a spell. “Then I must return now.” Io screamed and stormed to door. Before she leaped any further, she felt her legs weaken and she dropped to the ground. She could not move her legs as if they were chained into a big solid stone. Slowly, her legs moved without her control. They moved her back into the room. Bewildered, Io looked around her and found out that the well-muscled with white hair fixed his deep gaze at her.

“Forgive me Princess for doing this to you. Patient is key to success. We have to wait for Lucius here. In the meantime, you have so much to learn about us.” Said the white hair man.

“Don’t be frightened Princess. It’s not a dark magic you have just saw. Aiden is the master of mind controlling. He could control your body movement by controlling your mind.” Said Leon, the other elder with gray hair. “Jato, I think we must tell her who we are and why we are here.”

At that moment the world changed for Io. A kind of fog rose before her eyes, and when it cleared nothing seemed real. She was overwhelmed with worries and confusion. She was alone in the farthest land from her own home than she had ever been in her life. She saw the sun disappeared behind dark clouds, and the air smelled of rain. White showers of soft snow suddenly rush to the earth… the first snow in the winter. The wind swirled and gushed as if they cried for someone whom they lost. It was as cold as Io’s heart at the moment.

Illario lent her a shoulder to cry. She broke down and sobbed. Tears rolled down at her cheek like a river from her hazel green eyes. Her face went white for the cold and sorrows. Illario wrapped her with his coat and tried anything he could do to offer her comfort. The other five elder stayed still in silence.

“Father, I think it’s best to let Io get some sleep for the night.” Said Illario.

They agreed with this idea.Io followed Illario back to the his house. It was almost dark and the lamps in iron stands shed an orange glow in the house. Illario led her into one of the room. The room was small but tidy. There was an iron lamp on the table. A modest mattress was laid on the bed.

“Try to get some rest, Io. Don’t worry, Lucius will be here soon with your parents. If you need anything, you know where to find me. Master Aiden and Aunt Hydra will take the first round guard so there will be no harms to be worried about.” Said Illario.

“Goodnight.” Illario walked to the door and closed it behind him.

IO - Part 2

Meeting an Unexpected Friend

The royal family was all fast asleep. All was wrapped in silence, and all that could be seen was the moon peacefully illuminating darkness. Io lay deeply asleep in her cosy chamber. The night passed, the moon paled as dawn came. Suddenly, the sounds of enigmatic murmur fell around her that stirred her up. She sleepily woke up and strained her ears to find where the sounds came from. She looked around but only found darkness all around her. Not a single person was in her room. The sheer creepy gusting wind coming from her open window alerted her instantly.

.“How strange, I had locked the window. Was it because of the wind? And where’re the sounds gone” Io murmured. The chilly night wind had brushed her skin and made her shivering. As she tried to lock her window, she saw a shadow flashing at the palace wall. Someone was climbing up the side of the palace wall. The shadow tried to reach King’s Orestes chamber. Step by step the figure came up the wall, cautiously and unhurried, as if the figure had confident that there was nothing could stot him.

Io’s first instinct was to yell out for the guards beneath, but cunning took over. To shout would raise the sleeping guards, but it would also alert the intruder. She reached for her archery and stepped out her windowsill until her feet found solid rock ridge below. From her distant, she cautiously aimed her target. She measured her elbow string and put an arrow on her bow. The shadow was trying to climb up the window. Io released her first arrow. It hit the intruder at the left arm that made him lost his balance. The shadow fell on the roof. The sound soon alerted the guards below.

“Intruder, set the alarm.” Shouted one of the guards.

Io run towards the door and stormed into King’s Orestes’s chamber. The King has awakened and already got ready with his sword.

“Father, are you all right?” said Io.

“What is it Io? I’ve heard someone fell from the window and the guards have just set the alarm?” asked the King.

“Someone was trying to get into your chamber. I had wounded him at his left arm.” Said Io. Before the King could stop her, Io had run to chase the intruder.

The guards had him sieged. The intruder fought back. He had wounded some patrol guards. As help were rushing in with more numbers, he made a loud whistle. A steady black mare came and he leaped up on his back. He run towards the gate that was surprisingly wide open. He managed to escape into the thick forest.

Io kept chasing the intruder alone. She rushed Argos to follow his track. The dawn has just broken. The sunlight slowly lightened up the day. Its ray had slowly pierced through the thick forest trees. The sound of the birds echoed throughout the forest. Io had lost his track. He drove Argos slowly following the riverbank. After awhile, the road began to climb steeply. Argos was neighing and panting. His head low as he picked his way up the steps. The forest deepened, still and airless. There were already signs of winter, though the sky was clear blue but the air cold and damp. The leaves were beginning to turn gold and vermillion. Some were already falling to the damp grounds. Strings of wild geese flew high above her. Io was suddenly stricken with hunger and fatigue. She had been riding for hours by now and she did not eat ever since. She did not know where she was and she got completely lost. Argos also looked miserable.

“Easy now Argos… I think we are lost. Come, we must find someplace to rest.” Io got off from his back. She held Argos’ reign. She walked through thick shrubs and braches until she found a small clearance near a small creek. She let Argos grazed. There were a lot of wild berries she could eat. Lucius had taught her to recognize which berries safe to eat. She sat under a great shady tree. Fatigue had made her sleepy. She fell into a sleep afterwards.

Io woke up by the cold iron on her neck. She opened her eyes and looked at a bearded big man pointing his sword at her neck. His clothe was so shabby and his muscular body was muddy. Yet, his eyes were as sharp as a hawk. His left arm was in a bandage. Immediately Io knew the man was whom he was chasing. Surprisingly, Io did not feel any threatening danger coming from the man. She stayed still for a moment or two.

“What do you want, coward? Attacking me while I am sleeping?” shouted Io fiercely.

The man laughed loudly but his sword still at Io’s neck. His gaze was fixed on her from head to toe.

“I can’t believe a little girl had wounded me. I thought you were a man for a moment. I like your spirit. Not bad for a young girl like you.” He grinned. “You should be very careful young lady. It’s a dangerous forest to carelessly sleep.”

“Hey, I’m not a little girl. Your wound is the prove. Let’s fight and we shall know who is the little girl.” Screamed Io angrily.

The man’s laughter echoed again. He removed his sword from Io’s neck and put it back at its sheath.

“Save your energy, princess. I don’t want to fight you. It’s no use. Why there’s fight between friends while you still have many enemies to deal with.” Said the man calmly. He made a gesture for Io to follow him.

“What? Is it a joke? Why should I trust you? And how do you know me?” Io talked loudly and had strained her bow.

“Lucius was right. You are both stubborn and courageous. You don’t want to kill a friend, do you Princess Iola?” The man reached out of his pocket. From inside, he produced a royal seal, the emblem of Navarro. “I believed you know this seal very well. Only the most trusted could obtain this seal.”

Io dropped her archery and looked at the man. She tried hard to remember the face. Yet, she never saw his. “Who are you?” asked Io curiously. “I’ve never seen you before. And why did you try to kill my father?”

“You have mistaken me, Princess Io. I wasn’t trying to murder the King. I was trying to save him. And off course you never see me. First, i am tripple your age." Smile the man. " Second, I’m not a kind of person who likes to mingle around at the court. Third, I like the jungle far better than your palace. Come, we must not waste our time. Soon, Eresbos will send his guards to find and kill you. Save your questions for later.” He said impatiently and started to walk away.

“Wait up, at least give me your name, please?” said Io at last. She led Argos to follow him. She knew with the royal seal, she had no doubt that the man was someone she could trust.

“Just call me Jato.”

Io gasped when she heard the name. She never had thought she would meet the legendary man herself. His father and Lucius often told her about the mighty dragon slayer who had saved Navarro from his terror long time ago. It was told that 20 years ago, a dragon that breathed fire attacked Navarro. Many had died to kill him. The dragon seemed immune to any weaponry. His scale was thick as iron and his face was fierce. He flew away form his lair across Navarro. He stuck any villages with his fire. Hundreds of arrows were broken as soon as they hit his scale. Swords and sabres got broken when they made contact with his scale. Many knights and citizens of Navarro died. King Orestes almost got killed when the dragon stuck the palace. King Orestes bravely fought the dragon and got wounded with his claws.

In the moment of despair, King Orestes made a contest that whoever killed the beast, he shall be crowned as King of Navarro. Many knights and warriors tried their luck. No one succeeded. All met with a miserable death either got crushed or burnt in the fire. Jato came in. A brave man at his early twenties challenged the beast. It was said that he rode at the dragon’s back and cut off his head with his sword. But when the King wanted to make Jato king, he refused. He left without a word and disappeared ever since. That’s the story Io often heard.

IO

This will be my next story for my project :-)

Io and King Orestes

Long long time ago, in a large and wide country called Navarro there lived a great king. His name was King Orestes. He was kind and just. He always concerned with his people’s welfare and security. Under his reign, Navarro turned into most powerful and prosperous country. His marriage with a commoner bore a beautiful little daughter whom they named Iola meaning Violet. She was often called Io. People loved the royal family.

Once a month, The King took his queen and Io into disguise to visit his citizens. They were not escorted with guards or maids. They often disguised themselves into foreigner merchant family who travelled from a far. The King would bring his family to spend the night at one of villager’s house. Next, the King would talk to the villagers. Often, The King helped them to solve their daily problems. By this way, King Orestes knew well the true life of his citizens and whether the monthly report he received from his ministers was right or false. The only royal guard that would go alongside the King was Lucius. He was most trusted and loyal friend of King Orestes.

Io loved to play with the kids villagers. They climbed into trees and raced with horses. She was also fond of archery art. Her skill in this field improved steadfastly. Lucius taught her to use sword for self defense. As the crown princess, her life could be in any jeopardy at anytime. The King himself let her learn those skills even though she was a girl. The King used to say that Io “remember Io, learn all you need to know. Knowledge will give you power but ignorance is only a bliss. There will be enemies at the state…you have to be ready.”

When they visited one small village called Skydra at the Southern border of Navarro, Io was given a given most valuable gift, a white stallion. Under the sunlight, the stallion gallantly galloped approaching Io as if they were friends. It was like there a shinning beamed from the white mare. It was not take long for Io to tame the beast. Io called him ‘Argos’ meaning shinning. From then on, Io never got parted with Argos. She got training how to manage a horse while carrying and shooting a bow.

A Treason against King Orestes

But as what most stories uncovered, there was always evil even in the bright places. Minister Eresbos who was King’s most trusted advisor envied King Orestes. He long had an ambition to be crowned as King of Navarro. He despised the queen who was a commoner and never agreed the marriage from the beginning. Over the years, he gathered allies from the noblemen and lords. He abetted the royal guards to overthrow the King.

Secretly, on one darkest night during winter, he held meeting with those whom disliked the King, noblemen and lords who were thirsty for power and wealth. In one of the dungeon below the palace, they gathered. A small damp room with stone chairs and tables was lighted by some torches. Minister Eresbos had ordered his most trusted guards to seal the place from any uninvited guests. He sat on a big stone chair facing his allies that sat in a moon crest shape. Upon ensuring that the room was safe, he stood up and spread his gaze around.

“He had married a commoner. This is a disgrace to our Kingdom. She could not bore any son. The King is too fond of her. Our King had travelled across the country and mingled with peasants and villagers. What next? He will be appointed peasants as commanders. We shall not let this happen, shan’t we? “Exclaimed Eresbos fiercely.

There was a murmur followed. Some argued that King Orestes had many followers. It would not easy to seize the throne from him. Royal Guard, Lucius, also had many loyal men who would sacrifice their life to protect the royal family. Further, Navarro had long been in a peaceful and prosperous state. People would go against them if they betrayed their king.

“You, cowards… why do you afraid of things that not happen yet? They may be having strong influence on people. But, my dear noblemen and lords, they have no power over the dark power. Can a dragon live without its head?” asked Lucius cunningly. “If we kill the King, Navarro will have no king to rule. Princess Io is still too young to rule. And who do you think will be her custodian?”

“Indeed, you are so clever, Minister Eresbos. It never crossed my mind. The question now, how and who will execute the plan? Killing the King while Lucius is around will not be easy. “said Lord Desmos.

“Ha..ha..ha…that will not be a problem Lord Demos. The matter has been taken care of. If you all swore to support my being a king, I promise, each will get more power and wealth in return for your loyalty to me.” Replied Minister Eresbos.

The wind gushed and swirled wildly outside the palace. All except the guards on patrol seemed had slumbered on their bed in the chilly frosty cold winter. But, in the damp room where the secret meeting was held, a fire seemed consumed the whole palace. The night insects’ cry and the howling of the hounds seemed trying to spread the conspiracy against the king.

Meeting an Unexpected Friend

The royal family was all fast asleep. All was wrapped in silence, and all that could be seen was the moon peacefully illuminating darkness. Io suddenly woke up by the sheer creepy gusting wind coming from her open window.

“How strange, I had locked the window. Was it because of the wind?” Io murmured. The chilly night wind had brushed her skin and made her shivering. As she tried to lock her window, she saw a shadow flashing at the palace wall.

THE ADVENTURE OF ARTHUR THE BEE: PART II

The Council Meeting

Next to Leones was Artemis with his armor. A fox and two leopards stood near Artemis. In the far end, a group of foxes stood in a row. The rest of the animals had grouped themselves round him in the shape of a half-circle. Some torches were lit on the cave walls. A howl and gibber of uncertainty went up amidst the crowds. There was moment of a racket before a thundering roaring struck the hall. Leones had roared to get their attention. His roar was deep and heavy. It echoed throughout the hall. All were suddenly quite in silence.

King Leones spread his gaze around. He moved forward until he was in the middle of the hall.

“My dear fellow citizens, tonight we gather to discuss a serious matter. A threat had been seen this morning. A group of hunters had trespass our territory. Our Mr. Bulky almost got killed. Luckily, our brave warrior, Artemis, and Little Arthur had come into rescue.” Said Leones. “And this meant danger to us all. So, we are here to find the best solution.” Added Leones the King.

“High King, Leones. It is indeed a present and clear danger. For so long, humans never set foot within our Forest. They only hunt outside our territory. Once, they hunt here; they will keep doing it again and again.” An old Owl said in a worried tone.

Soon, all were talking and gibbering. Arthur now recognized the old Owl as the wise counselor of the Old Forest. He often devised advises in time of crisis. His strategy and direction often worked. His father had often talked about the old Counselor.

“My dear counselor, Cicero, what do you think we should do?” asked the High King to the old Owl.

“High King, we must soon take action. We have to send humans clear message that this Old Forest must remain undisturbed. But, we must devise a thoughtful plan so that humans will not get angry or harmed. Otherwise, there will be killings among the two races. My advice is to send Artemis for this task. He has succeeded years ago. And he will again this time, your Majesty.” Said Cicero.

“High King, my race is known for their speed and cunningness. If I should be given this task, I will not let you down.” Thundered a voice from the far end.

The voice came from the leader of the foxes. He was big and fierce. His fangs were sharp and his eyes were full of fire.

“Hey, don’t talk nonsense, Foxero. You are too reckless for this great important task. I’m worried if you would only make a blunder and get us all killed. Worse, you will make humans hunt us down.” Said the Leopard scornfully.

Then, the other animals talked noisily. Some agreed with Foxero, others with Leopard, and some with Cicero.

“Silence.” Roared Leones. “We gather here to find the solution and not to fight one another. United we stand, divided we fall. Should I remind you all with this?” Said Leones angrily.

Arthur could see Foxero and Leopard casted their eyes to the ground. The other animals stayed silence, unmoved. Meanwhile, Artemis was thoughtful and made some discussion with Cicero.

Among the crowds, Arthur could see his father in the honey bee group at the southern end. They also had their mind racing around. The meeting had been going on longer from he had expected. His body got ached as he had to stay still in the tiny small hole. There’s also a tickling air that made him want to sneeze. Suddenly, he could not hold his breath any longer. A loud sneeze came out from his mouth. Off balance, he fell from his hiding place. Midair, he regained his balance and flew up only to see that all had turned their heads to his direction. All eyes gazed at him.

Out of the circle, his father rushed towards him.

“Arthur, haven’t I told you to stay at home? What are doing sneaking in this meeting?” shouted his father.

“I’m so sorry Dad. I could not resist my curiosity.” Whispered Arthur regretfully. As his father about to send him away, King Leones addressed Arthur in most friendly manner.

“Ah, it’s young Arthur apparently. Please come forward, son!” Said the King.

Hesitatingly, Arthur stepped forward. He did not dare to cast his eyes around. Yet, when he got in front of the King, he gazed directly through his eyes. Amazingly, those eyes were soft but strong as if they have been a long lost friend. He also admired his golden mane that flicker under the light.

“Aren’t you afraid of me Young Arthur?” asked the King in a soft tone.

“No, Sir. I mean your Majesty.” Answered Arthur boldly.

Suddenly, the King laughed aloud. “You are indeed the bravest honeybee I’ve ever met.” I think Artemis would be gladly to have you as his assistance for this task. But first let me ask permission from your father.” King Leones turned his eyes to Father Bee. “What do you think Father Bee? Our kingdom needs him. He is brave and courageous. Yet, if you did not let him take part into this mission, I would not impose any force on you or your son.” Said the King wisely

“High King Leones, if my son was needed, I had no right to hold him back.” Said Father Bee at last. He took a deep breath and hugged Arthur warmly. “Son, be bold and courageous. Be not afraid of your enemies for you have strength greater than you have ever imagined if only you believe in yourself.”

Artemis is Elected a Leader

Cicero, what do you think of this matter?” Artemis will surely make a fine leader for the mission. But I think Foxero’s idea has the point. Those hunters are very dangerous with rifles and guns and Foxero run fast lilke the wind.” Asked The High King.

“King Leones, I have no doubt that either Foxero or Leopard could carry this task. But there will be blood spilt. They have attacking and killing nature the same with those hunters. Our aim is to drive humans out of our kingdom without spilling a single drop of blood.” Cicero spoke deep. He threw his gaze around the audience. “Artemis and his men on the other hand, they are defensive in nature. They attack without the lust for blood. It will be more effective to send Artemis and his fellows. They will be easily driving those hunters into a trap. So, we don’t have to kill. Killing means only more killings again. More hunters will be likely to flock in if there was any victim.”

“If I may say High King Leones, I agree with Cicero.” Said Sharp Eyes The Eagle. “Artemis also had the experience in our last battle years ago. Foxero, Leopard, and other beasts have their parts. Cicero is talking about setting up a trap. It sounds like every hand available is needed to help this out.”

Murmurs and mutters were followed afterwards. All were talking about what kind of trap. Each had idea. The hall was full of noises. They all stopped when Arthur spoke.

“I think we can make holes underground. We will cover them with leaves and branches so our enemy will not suspect there a hole beneath. If those hunters stepped on those traps, they would fall down.” Said Arthur. “Then all the beasts will roar and howl towards them. With this, they will know that we mean business…that their presence is not welcomed.” Arthur stopped and looked around. When no one made any response, he threw his gaze at Artemis for approval.

“What a brilliant idea, kid!” Suddenly Foxero spoke. “This plan might work. Artemis and his men must herd those hunters into the trap. It is not an easy task. We need a bait to lure them.”

“I’ll do it!” screamed Mr. Vigor loudly. Humans hunt me for my tusk. They would likely come after me into the trap if they saw me.”

“You are very brave my dear friend.” Said Artemis. “We need another trap to make this plan work out. I suggest we make the trap below the steep slope near the Great Waterfall. We must load logs up to the slope. When the hunters run in chaos, the logs will be released down the slope towards the men. This will give them another wave shock and make them run towards the hole. And no one will not get killed.

“Excellent plan, my dear fellow citizens. If we can talk together, work together, and walk together, all problems will have a way out.” Said King Leones.

The next moment King Leones with approval of all appointed Artemis as leader of the mission. Arthur and Mr. Vigor would help Artemis.

Getting to Work

As the night was getting late, Artemis and Cicero now arranged a plan. It was agreed that Mr. Vigor would be the bait for the hunters. He could run fast to avoid the chasing. Arthur and Artemis would further lure the hunters into the traps. The Leopards and the foxes with the help of the bears would set traps for the hunters, the traps that would never be forgotten by those humans.. Now, they were waiting for the look out to report.

A few hours before daybreak, four bumblebees arrived with the news. They informed Artemis that the hunters had built tents outside the Old Forest. There were twenty of them. They would go into the Forest by tomorrow morning. They were now still busy tending the wounded hunters. Upon hearing this, Artemis ordered the others to immediately do their jobs.

Arthur was told to get some sleep and rest for he had a long dangerous task to perform. But, hearing the bedlam of the timber work, he could not sleep at all. So, he perched in the highest branch of the Elk tree and watched the others doing their work.

He could see Mr. Bulky led the other bears to bring down some big forest trees. Before long, he could hear the hack-hack-hack of claws and teeth falling on timber. The braches and leaves were cut off. The trees became long wooden logs. He led them up the steep slope out of the river valley. The logs then were dragged up to the steep slope. They got helped from the elephants, horses, rhinos, and great apes. The horses were tugging and straining as they dragged the logs. The elephants and the apes were shrieking and panting.

“Get on, guys! Pull together! One, two three!" Shouted Mr. Bulky. We have to finish this up before dusk.”

At top of the steep slope, they piled up the logs one above the other until they looked like a high logged fence. It was a hard labor to perform.

Far ahead, a group of foxes, rabbits, giant rodents, and badgers dug some holes underground. They were big and deep enough to get someone trapped inside. Each hole was then covered with piles of bushes, leaves, and branches. One would not suspect there was a hole beneath those scattered death leaves and branches.

All worked together hand in hand. If there was any quarrel, it was settled peacefully without arising any more fights and arguments. King Leones always supervised their labor. He often helped others in their work. At dusk, all were completed. The King ordered them to rest for tomorrow was a big day. The two leopards were guarded the area round the clock.

It was now time for Arthur and Mr. Vigor to depart.

“Are you afraid, young Arthur?” asked the King.

“No, sir. It is an honor for me to carry this task. I’ll do my best. We have plans and I believe it will work fine.” Replied Arthur.

“Arghh…that’s my boy. Remember again size is not everything. You have to use your wits to defeat your enemy. Artemis will come along with you.” The King turned to Artemis to make sure that he knew what to do. “Artemis, protect young Arthur and Vigor.”

“Don’t worry High King.” Replied Artemis shortly. “By good fortune tonight will be a starry night - and it will be much shorter journey for then we will not go round-about but we shall go straight.”

The Journey

As the night fell, the three set off. The forest was very quiet. It was far too quiet. On an ordinary Old Forest night, there ought to have been noises - an occasional cheery "Goodnight" from the night insects, the cry of an Owl overhead, the howl of red foxes, and perhaps some throbbing of badgers underground in their den. All was silence as if the forest had been swallowed with gloom and fear. Artemis and Arthur sat on Mr. Vigor’s back. Each was drawn in their own thoughts. Even, Mr. Vigor seemed quite and not acted as usual.

“Mr. Vigor, are you all right?” asked Arthur at last.

“Ehm…off course I’m all OK kiddo. No need to worry about me. I’m just a little bit scared, that’s all. But I tell you kid, tomorrow morning, I will not let those hunters touch my skin. I will make them regretting for ever entering the Old Forest.” Replied Mr. Vigor convincingly. “Ah, tell me great warrior Artemis, what do you feel having another fight? You must be excited to have this war, aren’t you?” Mr. Vigor tried to tease Artemis.

“War is something I really hate. War is not a place to prove your bravery. It only brings misery and tears. But, we have to do this for self-defense. That’s why Cicero only advised us to drive humans away from our Old Forest. I wish we could all live peacefully without any fight.” Artemis casted his eyes above as if he tried to find some peace in the dark sky. He never liked to go into wars. But when duty called, he had to his best for the safety of his forest, friends, and family.

“Stop.” Whispered Arthur. “Someone has been following us. Could be someone we know or perhaps it is an enemy?”

The party stood in silence for a minute or two and then went on. After a time they began to go steeply uphill and the trees grew further apart. Arthur could dimly make out where he was as he never went too far from his home. The furthest distance he had ever experienced was when he visited Mr. Vigor. When they got at a sharp turn, Artemis flew away across the bushes.

“Get out or you will have to suffer a sting?” shouted Artemis

Then, from the thick bushes, came out little white shape. It slowly hoped out.

“It’s Snuffy! Don’t hurt him Mr. Artemis, he’s my friend.” Said Arthur. “Snuffy, what are you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to stay at bed with your sisters right now?” Arthur flew approaching his friend.

“Arthur, please don’t tell my mother. I could not sleep. My father said there’s been danger approaching our place. When I tried to get some fresh air, I saw you three passing by. Then, I followed you here.” Snuffy tried to make an explanation to the whole party.

“My..my…my… now, we have to protect another one. Artemis, just send him away. He would only bring trouble for us all. Just go home, kiddo.” Said Mr. Vigor sharply.

“Oh, No, please don’t send home. I don’t know the way. Let me come with you guys. I could be any help, please?” Said Snuffy. “If Arthur was able to participate in this secret mission, surely I must be given the same chance.”

“Vigor, we can’t just send this kid home. I think it will be quite helpful with one more hand to help.” Said Artemis.

It was finally agreed that Snuffy would join the party despite Mr. Vigor’s protest. So, they continued their journey.

When they got nearer, they saw bonfire far outside the forest. It took another one hour to get there. The bon fire was lit in the middle of a clearing. Very slowly, hardly daring to breathe, they made their way up to a little clump of trees which was not more than fifty feet away from the clearing. The bonfire must have been lit for long and was just beginning to blaze off. Scattered around the almost dying bon fire was four big tents.

"Wait here till I come again," Artemis whispered to the other three. Artemis flew to inspect each tent. When he returned to his party, he informed them that each tent contained five hunters. Soon, they would wake up and got prepared to hunt.

“Vigor, you know what you have to do. At the moment when they least expected, you must ambush them. Remember it is only to lure them going into our trap. Take time needed, and then rush forward into the forest.” Ordered Artemis sternly. “Arthur, you and I will continue the task. We have to scatter their groups. We have to lead them into the traps. My men will be helping us when we already get into the woods.”

“How about me?” asked Snuffy.

“Snuffy, I think you can run faster than the rest of us. It is your responsibility to inform our fellows about our arrival. Do you think you can do this?” replied Artemis.

“Yes, Sir absolutely!” said Snuffy cheerfully.

The plan was already set up. They waited in silence.

The Hunters Fell into a Trap

At daybreak, the hunters already awoke. They began making preparations for the hunting. They loaded their guns and rifles. Some carried some archery. Then, they cooked their breakfast before going into the forest. They did not realize that Arthur and his friends hid behind the trees behind them.

As the hunters were busy with their meal, Artemis made a signal to Mr. Vigor. The next moment, Mr. Vigor jumped out of the hiding place and struck the hunters randomly. A deep murmur swelled into a roar of panic and chaos, and within seconds the scene was one of confusion. Several hunters ran into a hollow log and some blocked the ends with thick branches while others made an attempt to grab their guns and shot. Mr. Vigor had successfully caught them off guard. A few moments later, Artemis yelled ordering Mr. Vigor to run into the forest. Accordingly, he paced up his speed and run out of sight, vanishing into the thick forest trees.

The leader of the hunters charged his men and compelled a semblance of order. It did not take long for him to regain command.

“Listen up guys, that was one big elephant! Enough to make a trophy of our triumph. We have to get the beast killed. Let’s go after it!” Shouted the leader. Afterwards, they all run forward into the forest with their loaded guns. Some opened fires.

“It’s our turn Arthur! Let’ go after them! Snuffy, run to our fellows quick!” Cried Artemis.

Arthur courageously struck some hunters with his sting. Artemis also did the same. Not so long, a group of bumblebees and honeybees joined them. Arthur saw his father among them. The hunters run wildly without direction. A sharp snap, followed by an agonizing scream was soon heard. Some hunters rolled in the ground to avoid their attackers. Artemis gave orders for the bees to lead the hunters into the trap.

Arthur and his fellows kept attacking the hunters until they got into the spot below the steep slope. When all hunters had been cornered in the spot, suddenly Arthur and other bees disappeared. They left the hunters all alone. The place became quite as if the wind had stopped blowing, and the animals had disappeared. The hunters were relieved that their attackers had vanished but wondered why they were gone just like that. The next moment, a rumbling sound from above the steep slope was heard. These sounds were rushing towards them. As they turned their gaze into the source of the rumbling sound, they went white and pale. Waves of log slide had come towards them. They immediately run wildly to avoid the surging logs.

Suddenly, everyone began running toward the trap. As they run, they did not see that another trap had waited. One by one, the wounded and disoriented hunters crashed through the dead leaves and branches and fell into the hole. They hollered and screamed in pain. Three hunters managed to escape from the trap. When they tried to run away, a frightening roar stopped them. Leones The King, two leopards, and a jackal were slowly walking towards them. Leones roaring was deafening. The hunters fell into the ground and sobbed. They thought their life would end miserably.

King Leones signaled his citizens to encircle the area. All gathered and made a full moon circle. There were roaring and shrieking. King Leones walked gallantly towards the leader. With mighty force, he roared and lifted his paws in the air. His eyes were red fire. He looked so menacingly as if he was a giant volcano ready for an eruption. The leader was shivering and trembling. King Leones drew back and stood still while fixing his glare towards the leader and his men. A few moments passed. Finally, the leader decided to stand up. He picked up his hat and rubbed his wounded arms. The next moment, he helped his men who were trapped in the hole under the blazing gaze of The High King and the other beasts.

“Let’s get out of here! This forest is no place for hunting. These beasts did not kill us. In return, we must leave them peacefully in this forest!” said the leader.

“Yeah… I don’t want to set foot on this forest again. Look at that great lion. I bet he’s the Lion King! It’s a bad omen!” said another.

Before leaving, the leader stared at King Leones. Only this time, he looked at The High King without any fear but with great respect.

“We will leave this forest forever. You can keep my words.” The leader said affirmatively. He bent forward and tilted his hat towards The King.

Slowly, the hunters stepped back. The King signaled his citizens to give them the way. They walked through the circle safely and sound. The beasts followed them all until they reached outside the Old Forest.

“Hurah…!” all were cheering clasping. “We did it! Cried the citizens of The Old Forest.

A good beginning makes a good ending

As the battle was over, King Leones invited all to have a feast in the plain near the Great Waterfall. A huge bonfire was lit. Almost all dwellers of the Old Forests attended the feast to celebrate their victory.

“My dear fellow citizens, tonight, we gather in this great plain for a celebration. We had worked together tremendously. Each had casted the differences away. Each had gave their time and energy to help one another. We had done a great job.” Said the King proudly. “All are heroes. I thank you for this. And to you young Arthur, you will make a fine warrior, one day. You have shown us loyalty and bravery.”

“That’s my friend!” cried Snuffy.

“You too my little brave mouse! You are also a brave warrior!” added The King.

So, all enjoyed the party except Mr. Pride who still had the feeling that he was left behind. He had no stories to share with others. They all seemed already tired with his old stories about his heroism and grandeur.

Artemis and Cicero as usual involved in long discussion. They were glad but never wanted to get drowned in the feast. They always chose a spot afar from the crowd. They perched on the highest tree and stared at the bright moon above.

“I pray no more hunters will dare to set their foot in this forest again!” whispered Cicero almost unheard.

“My old wise friend, there’s no need to worry. As long as we still have many young Arthurs, our world will be just fine!” Said Artemis.

The crowds were cheering happily. All enjoyed the food and the meal. Snuffy had no more room for food in his stomach. Mr. Vigor danced and sang with Mr. Moose while Foxero and the other foxes swayed their bushy tails following the rhythm and howled. Mr. Bulky stood with Mrs. Carroty laughing loudly. His left ankle was still in bandage. The two leopards stood with King Leones, enjoying the food and talked merrily.

Meanwhile, Arthur tried hard to slip away from the party. He longed to see his father and mother. He had a tremendous adventure these last few days. He learnt some valuable lesson about friendship, courage, and honor. Yet, he felt that there’s no place so peace like home. But he was also eager to have another adventure!
