A Cloudy February: Another Flooding at Jakarta

Torrential downpours that engraved Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, Bekasi) since last night finally taken its toll. Almost every activity in the capital put into a halt as water flooded the mainstreets and arteries; bringing traffic to a standstill.

This flooding seems become a habitual event in this capital. Some blamed the flooding on garbage-clogged rivers, rampant overdevelopment and the deforestation of hills south of the city, also the mismanagement of the city building landscape. Capitalism had crippled the capability of the officials as well as businessmen in expanding and maximing their profit by denouncing the environmental considerations.

The condition is worsened by the climate change that is triggered by global warming. Though many scientists and environmentalists had long revealed the danger of this phenomenon, all businesses stil run as usual. Capitalists get greedier...Natural resources are drawn without considering their preservation. More and more green areas are cutting down for this purpose; making this world hottier every decade...even every year. Former vice President Al Gore had clearly stated this devastating fact in his nobel prize winning documentary film, An Inconvenient truth.

Indonesia, is one of the many Asian countries that would greatly affected by this massive climate change. And today, we have seen the proof (although many proofs had been revealed in these past few decades). It's only a matter of time before Jakarta drown...

And we have to act WISELY before IT'S TOO LATE...
